- Date of publication 11-28-2004 The sisters of the Canadian province gather to mark the closing of the “Year of Perrine” on November 7th in a spirit of relaxation, festive celebration, prayer……
Several sisters had already made their way to Edmonton joining Notre-Dame community in celebrating Sunday morning Eucharist with them. This special day of celebrating began with a festive noon meal enhanced by the culinary talents and generosity of everyone! Besides being very tasty, a warm, friendly ambiance characterized our festive meal. A little later in the afternoon we had the particular joy of welcoming two very talented musicians into our midst. They played delightful folkloric melodies and several pieces of classical music renewing and uplifting the heart of everyone present!
Later yet that afternoon, we gathered in the chapel to listen to Ruth and Thérère share treasures with us on the theme of “humility”, the last of the four key virtues Perrine recommended to her sisters so very many years ago. All throughout this year of Perrine, we took turns, utilising a variety of presentation methods, desiring to deepen our reflections on charity, then simplicity, followed by unity and then, today, humility is our topic for reflection. We decorated the centre of beauty for our prayer with the beautiful ’pagne’ or African cloth, received recently from our African sisters at the Filey festivities celebrating 100 years of presence of the sisters of Évron on mission in the British Isles. A lovely bouquet of white carnations represented those courageous women of faith preceding us in the “service of Jesus Christ poor in the person of the poor”.
During our closing-prayer celebration, composed of many touching elements of celebrations and prayer times during the 350th in France this past summer, a brightly coloured carnation was offered to each sister expressing a deep sense of communion and solidarity in the task of the mission entrusted to us with it’s present-day stark challenges ever faced in the hope that tomorrow’s world may know greater peace and justice for all people!
Shortly before leaving to go our separate ways, we were relieved to receive a fax from Cécile and Marie-Françoise, through Marie-Louise and Georgette in France. Cécile and Marie-Françoise are presently visiting the sisters of the African Delegation during yet another fragile time in the history of the people of Ivory Coast. Daily, sisters and associates carry in their hearts thoughts and prayers asking God that real and lasting peace may soon return to this beautiful country! Everyone was grateful and encouraged!
