- Date of publication 06-28-2010 A celebration of religious life was held at the parish of Saint Pierre/Saint Vénérand in Laval the 30th and 31st January 2010.
On the initiative of our Parish Priest, Father Frederic Foucher, the religious from the parish were invited to renew their vows before the congregation gathered for the Eucharist.
"Consecrated": what does it mean?
Not just giving one's energy, money, qualities, affectivity, freedom, for a mission but for Someone: Christ, who's love fills our hearts (whence chastity) and our fellow human beings who we love in a special way. We live our paternity and our maternity through what we give to others. (Cf. Introduction by the celebrant.)
After the reading of the Gospel (Lk. 4,21-30), the celebrant invited the sisters from the various Congregations to come forward and renew their vows according to the formula of their own Congregation:
- Soeurs de la Misericorde
- Soeurs N.D. d'Evron
- Religieuses Hospitalières de St Joseph
- A consecrated virgin
- Father Foucher himself, a member of the secular institute "Cor Unum" renewed his commitment to follow Christ more closely and to live in the Spirit according to the Gospel, in obedience, chastity and poverty.
It was a very moving moment for all those present.
As they left the Church, the people present received a leaflet telling about the intuition of each founder/foundress ; an intuition adapted to the spirit and language of our mission in today's world.
After the Sunday Eucharist all the religious shared a meal in a joyful and friendly atmosphere. Father Boyer, vicar for religious, was also present.
At 3 pm we came together with the Carmelite community who are also present in the parish. It was a special time of sharing between "Contemplatives" and "Apostolic religious".
This was followed by Vespers in the Carmel where we had the opportunity of giving thanks for all we had received that day. An event we hope to renew next year.
This day was a sign given to the Church and the World
"Among the many gifts that we buy and that we receive, let us not forget the real gift: that of giving something of ourselves to one another; to give of our time to others." (cf. Benedict XV1)
