Official opening of the Perrine Thulard Residence

2- in France - Date of publication 11-16-2009
What bustle and commotion there has been over the past few days in the Residence Perrine Thulard! The PA system had to be installed, the walls decorated, the flowers prepared… and the big tent erected on the lawn.

Everything was ready for the big day… the only thing lacking was the sunshine.

Everyone knew what they were doing. The associates welcomed the guests and showed them where to park their cars and the entrance to the building.

Shortly after 2 pm everyone met in front of the building. Madame Segolene Chapellon, local director of Social Services representing the Prefet cut the ribbon in the presence of many officials: Bishop Thierry Scherrer of Laval, Jean Arthuis, President of the County Council, Guillaume Garot and Francois Zochetto, Members of Parliament, Joel Bedouet, Mayor of Evron and of course Sister Cecile and her Council.

We were welcomed into the big multi-purpose room by a group from the choir Volubilis. After a word of welcome from Bishop Scherrer and Cecile the ceremony of blessing the residence began: Psalm 26 proclaimed by 2 people, the Word of God read by our Deacon Yves Chauveau, bidding prayers followed by a prayer prepared by the residents.

The Bishop blessed the building while the choir sang several songs. A prayer drew to a close this part of the proceedings.

In spite of the number of people present the atmosphere was simple and joyful. We had the impression of being surrounded by a “big family”. We were pleased that Sister Gertrude Geoghegan and Sister Teresa Thorpe, from England, were able to be present for this celebration, a sign of our internationality.

During this time those Sisters of the Residence who so desired were sitting in the community room following all the proceedings on a screen. The Society PRISMA filmed everything and is preparing a DVD as a souvenir of this lovely day!
