Life of the communities

What a journey!

4- in Canada - Date of publication 11-09-2009
The Council of the Congregation announced the dates of the visit in September 2008, proof that the project had already been planned.

Thank you Réjeanne, Ann, Mary Ellen, Thérèse, Aline and all the Centenary planning team for having anticipated our arrival, inviting people from different Provinces and Delegations, preparing the celebrations, the various stages of the journey, calling on the associates and friends for the accommodation, planning the budget…  Wednesday 12th August

At the Edmonton airport a large welcome banner and balloons were carried by the Sisters and associates wished us “WELCOME”.

The hugs, greetings, joy and laughter were not lost on the other travellers who looked on intrigued. We had to collect our cases. We were introduced to Julien who was to be our driver during our visit while in Canada. We were only 30 km from the Residence, the Sisters house.

The arrival was wonderful: all the Sisters were there. The house was decorated for the occasion.

Emotional greetings were exchanged then we moved to the table.

The telephone was working well and several hosts were already there to take their guests.

I was among those staying in Edmonton at the Residence.

Without much delay we went to our rooms: flowers, welcome cards, little gifts both useful and agreeable in a nice blue bag which went with us on all out outings.

In this “treasure bag” were an album relating the life of the Sisters, the pioneers (100 years!) and other reading material: tourist guides, leaflets…

I wisely put the reading away for later in order to appreciate the comfort of my bed.

The Sisters welcome wasn’t finished.

Friday 14th August

We went to Trochu. The picnic was prepared, cultural and touristic stops were organised: a meeting at the Hutterite Colony, visit to the Fort Normandeau and Buffalo Jump and on our arrival a celebration at the graveyard where our first Sisters are buried. What organization involved! This could not be improvised!

Each day we went from discovery to discovery. The organisers had gone before us and came after us: accommodation, short stops near super-markets where one or two sisters came out with their arms full of fresh or hot food!

A very precise questionnaire had been prepared to test our brains and keep our curiosity alive during the journey!

How can I describe the welcome at the Residence? Availability!

Opening the door whenever someone arrived, taking the car to pick something up, giving a helping hand in the kitchen or for the washing up, set the table and prepare some treats to give pleasure..

A thousand thanks “let all the earth sing to the Lord, sing His praise and glory”.
