Life of the communities

A Missioning Ceremony and Continuous Service Awards celebrated at Residence Notre Dame on Thursday, March 16th acknowledges the excellent service of our very dedicated staff………

Residence Notre Dame staff members, guests and sisters gather in a context of prayerful thanksgiving, recognition and fellowship to honour their faithful, dedicated staff members…..

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that Sister Aline, the senior sisters and indeed all the sisters of the Canadian province extend their sincere expression of whole-hearted gratitude to each member of the staff at residence Notre Dame.
Over the past several weeks Sister Aline has gradually and carefully put together the prayer and program we enjoy today.  In the atrium of the senior sister’s community an attractive and significantly meaningful centre of beauty is arrayed with vigil lights lit from the large Christ candle, Flame of Gratitude, and a variety of apt symbols evoking the service of each of the employees.
We enter our ceremony with the gathering song “Come, My Father Has Blessed You” followed by the opening prayer and a prayer for the lighting of the Flame of Gratitude candle.  The scripture passage from Mathew 5; verses 14 to 16 was proclaimed by Bernadette.  Sister Mary Ellen led us in a moving reflection.  Each staff member was then called forth to receive a lit vigil light and together they read a pledge of service prayer.  A life-giving story from ‘Desert Wisdom’ was then read by Luc.  Then we sang ‘Service’ and several staff members participated in the expression of a number of prayer petitions.
The Continuous Service Awards for 5-9 years; 10-15 years and 16-20 years of service were then presented as each staff received a lovely chain.   Two staff members also celebrated their farewell each receiving a lovely bouquet of roses.   This was in many ways the most moving moment of the entire celebration because it was the senior sisters themselves who presented these gifts in recognition of their employees’ long and faithful service!
The prayer celebration was concluded with a meaningful Native American meditation prayer, the closing prayer and the song ‘Lord Jesus, of You I will Sing.’   A time of informal sharing and fellowship continued over a delicious lunch in a spirit of infectious joy and gratitude!!
