During this year, 2004, the sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Evron pause to mark a very important anniversary.
350 years ago, on November 6th 1654, Perrine Thulard, our foundress, was born in the little French village of La Chapelle-au-Riboul in Mayenne. Since November 6th, 2003 this “year of Perrine” as we fondly refer to it, has been marked by many festivities, special gatherings and moments of sharing, unfolding in a spirit of prayer and thanksgiving while manifesting our common joy and pride in belonging to this religious family.
In Evron, France, between August 3rd and August 8th 2004, we will be welcoming sisters and associate members from the Ivory Coast and Burkina-Faso, from Canada and Peru, from England and France. During a time of pilgrimage together, we will be retracing the footsteps of Perrine on the soil of our humble beginnings at La Chapelle-au-Riboul, at Saint-Pierre-des-Landes in memory of our sisters, martyred during the uprisings of the French Revolution and at Ernée where our sisters martyred during these turbulent times were arrested and subsequently guillotined in 1794.
On August 7th, 2004 at 3 pm in the Basilica of Evron, the Eucharist will be celebrated in a spirit of particular thanksgiving and gratitude for all of God’s many blessings throughout three centuries of graced history.
