The African “Daughters” of Perrine Thulard in Evron

Six African sisters from Ivory Coast have been in Evron since the end of July to follow a programme of formation as part of their preparation for Final Profession. Three of them opted to make their Final Vows in the Mother House Chapel in Evron on the 8th August (see archives, article of the 09/08/2004).

Six African sisters from Ivory Coast have been in Evron since the end of July to follow a programme of formation as part of their preparation for Final Profession. Three of them opted to make their Final Vows in the Mother House Chapel in Evron on the 8th August (see archives, article of the 09/08/2004).

This time of formation consists mainly in looking back over their experiences as Sisters of Evron from the moment of their initial commitment to the present day. The week of festivities in honour of the 350th anniversary of our Foundress was an ideal opportunity for them to discover or rediscover the pages of history written by our older sisters in France, in Canada and in England. The new video, which relates the history of the Congregation, was studied in detail. The publication of the book: “Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Evron in Africa”, published by Siloe and written by Sister Lucette Guillet, one of our first missionaries, provided an opportunity for re reading the beginnings of the Congregation in Ivory Coast in 1957 and in Burkina Faso in 1986. In each of the countries where we are present the pioneers marked out the paths which have become the present day roads.

Each year, the noviciate in Oumé, Ivory Coast, welcomes young women who prepare for religious life and make the choice to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors and like them to serve Christ as did Perrine Thulard. By making a commitment in our Congregation these young women give their lives to God for the service of their brothers and sisters in the field of education, health and social services. Their life together is a challenge and a sign of hope in this world where differences become an opportunity to collaborate in building unity.
