An International Congress for the leaders of the family catechesis was held
in Peru from 23rd February.

These days, lived out in the torrid heat, were a wonderful experience of faith, joy, enthusiasm and peace! 4,000 young people, not only from Peru, but also from Germany, Bolivia, Mexico and Equator, came together... Our parish accommodated 11 from the Peruvian selva. A lot of friendships were formed.

« May the Light of Jesus Christ shine and may it never be extinguished » was the general theme. A torch was lit and will spend a month in each diocese so that the light of Christ may shine for all.

Each day
the work in groups facilitated exchanges between the people from the same country and elsewhere. Displays, theatre, dance... and among others a presentation of the struggle between the powers of good and evil. A tall lady dressed in white, carried a light which overcame evil. At the same moment 3 young people carried out some acrobatics. We could see the Virgin Mary bringing forth the "Light", Jesus, to drive away the darkness.

Each day the talks on the year's theme young people, rise up, listen, be nourished by the Eucharist and set out with Jesus‰ were a source of enlightenment for faith and intelligence of the youth.

An hour of adoration of Christ in the Eucharist led by a Peruvian singer, Enrique Ascoy, was a time of deep prayer: the peace, contemplation, at times tears, testified to a real meting with Christ.

Throughout these days I was continually amazed and gave thanks for these young people who, each week, give their time and energy to help the children.

Each one returned home re-energised to work even harder for the children in the service of the family catechesis.
