The theme « encounters in the Gospel », particularly with Jesus.

On Saturday 25th September we had the first of 6 meetings planned for the year 2004-2005. The theme for this year is « encounters in the Gospel ». As we look more closely we see that Jesus is always meeting people, people who are very different. What we try to do is to look at one or other of these encounters and see how Jesus is with the people he meets: What he says, what he does, what message he brings. The French School of Spirituality, which inspired the life of Perrine Thulard, foundress of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Evron, permeates the lives of the sisters even today. It is this spiritual treasure that they like to share with the group of young people. Now, the main emphasis in this spirituality is to look at, to contemplate « Jesus the centre of our lives » in order to let ourselves be modelled by him so that our lives are an expression of his sentiments and continue his gestures of friendship, compassion, service.
The Gospel chosen for the 25th September is John 20, 19-23 where we see Jesus disciples united in prayer in a house with the doors locked « for they were afraid ». We look at how, why and in what way, we have become fearful like them. All the doors being locked, « Jesus came ». We are aware that Jesus « before returning to the Father » promised his presence in us and among us. Do we really believe this? A time of meditation, of sharing around this text shows us how much this meeting enlightens our daily life. Commentaries on the Gospel, other texts more poetic, help us to go further in our reflection. The song by G. de Courrèges : « look.go forward.cross over.sail » is really meaningful for us today and shows us, as in the Gospel, how we also are sent forth to live with the life of Jesus.

The meeting begins with a time - important for the group - of sharing what each one has experienced recently and news of those who are absent. It concludes with refreshments during which time we celebrate the 2nd birthday of Coralie, the youngest member of the group, but very much present and faithful together with her parents and brother. The next meeting is at Evron on the 27th November 2004 at 2.30 p.m.
