Meeting Jesus, the theme for our reflections during the coming year 2004-2005

2- in France - Date of publication 07-14-2004
A group of young adults between the ages of 20 and 35 years met six times over the past year to share and reflect. The adventure of this journey together is in itself a “whole school in spiritual awareness” and offers support in the daily living out of Gospel values.

Throughout the coming year, 2004-2005, this group of young adults will be reflecting on the theme Encountering Jesus : For example: “Zacheus, come quickly for I must dine at your home today” Luc 19. 1-10

*  Live one’s life centered on Jesus-Christ
     Perrine Thulard, imbued with the spirit of the Gospel, assures us that “Jesus is the way to the Father.” This is the spiritual intuition upon which Perrine, this woman of profound faith, based her little society, becoming the spirituality out of which the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Ervon serve in all of the countries where they are present : France, England, Canada, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Peru.

* Why the choice of this theme “Encountering Jesus” ?
     Quite simply, because in the Gospels we see how very often Jesus meets people perceiving something deeper in Jesus’ repeated emphasis upon the quality and importance of these encounters. We plan to explore the various means Jesus uses to engage in fruitful encounters with the women, the men and the children of his time, especially the more vulnerable ones due to oppressive forces, sickness or other forms of domination. Each time we gather we will be invited to discover another aspect of the quality and importance Jesus gives to meeting people, as found in the various scripture stories. Each story of encounter reveals a deep joy emanating from the very heart of the one Jesus encounters and more often than not the evidence of a remarkable transformation brought about by such an intimate encounter. Very often our sense of good will and generosity lead us to seek Jesus and know how we might better understand and walk according to Jesus’ will, only to discover each time, that it is Jesus who first seeks us out with untiring care and compassion. Our desire to spend time on this theme of “encountering Jesus” is relevant today, because, what we are really talking about is deepening the sense of meaning and purpose in our everyday lives.

* Our group is made up of young adults, both women and men, including young couples and welcomes other young adults interested in reflecting together.
