Associates from Vegreville and area gather as Lent begins.....

As part of our time of prayer together the sacrament of the sick is celebrated......

Associates from Vegreville and area met at the beginning of Lent for their usual afternoon of faith-sharing, reflection, prayer and fellowship together.    Following the Sunday Liturgy, Father Nilo, parish priest of St. Martin of Tours in Vegreville, was asked if he would be able to join us for the afternoon.
We gathered at Robert and Georgina Robert's home on the farm, as Georgina’s fragile health keeps her at home and close to her bed these days.  It was decided that we would incorporate the sacrament of the sick into our prayer time as Father Nilo was able to be with us.  Delighted with this occasion to visit parishioners in their home Father Nilo gladly accepted to celebrate the sacrament of the sick with our associate group. Since this group is composed of several senior members, some of whom live with reasonably serious health challenges, three of our number received the sacrament of the sick while the rest of us received a special blessing.
The quality of our sharing continues to help us incorporate the meaning of this healing sacrament, so readily available to God’s people, offering healing for the sources of suffering we encounter and strength for our faith in the face of all of the everyday circumstances of our lives.  Welcoming the grace and peace flowing from this healing, strengthening sacrament invites growth in love and forgiveness on our part during times of illness.
Following this, we enjoyed a lovely meal togetherEach of us participates in the preparation of the food that we share at the end of our afternoons together. Fellowship continued during the meal and then it‘s time for each of us to return home renewed in our sense of mission, in our commitment to continue to live our faith to the fullest in a spirit of love and forgiveness as we journey daily striving to become ever better disciples of Christ.

Perrine has been present in the West of Canada for a hundred years in the person of the Sisters who took up a challenge and accomplished a great acheivement. Each one left her own corner of Mayenne to go to “the other end of the earth” as people said at the time and we can imagine the strong faith that motivated them.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a young woman, one of my relatives (Sister Marie-Louise Recton, first provincial of the sisters of Evron in Canada) would have had such a lasting effect on a community.

The Fort Saskatchewan Associates meet on a monthly basis after the 11:00 mass, usually at Our Lady of Angels Parish church hall if the meeting rooms are not being used. This has provided us the opportunity to have Fathers Francis and John join us on several occasions.
