Transfer of Bonnyville Health Centre to the Alberta Catholic Health Corporation……

4- in Canada - Date of publication 11-22-2005
On June 17, 2005 the third of the rural hospitals sponsored by the Sisters of Charity Notre Dame d’Évron in Alberta was officially transferred to the Alberta Catholic Health Corporation…..

As in Trochu and Vegreville, a very moving and meaningful ceremony brought together Board members, staff, ACHC representatives, the local Ordinary, clergy, volunteers and citizens of Bonnyville as well as the Sisters to thank God for the past and to look forward with enthusiasm to a bright future in Catholic Health Care.   The theme “Caring Hands for Always” was symbolized by open serving hands.

The choice of scripture readings and hymns all spoke of thanksgiving and service.   Bonnyville is in the diocese of St. Paul so it was Bishop Luc Bouchard who was asked to do the reflection on the readings.  Bishop Bouchard noted that the Sisters had served the community of Bonnyville for eighty-six years and that the time had come for others to accept the challenge of providing for those in need, following the Sisters example to serve with love in Jesus’ name.

Many distinguished guests and friends of the Sisters witnessed to the dedication and steadfastness of the Sisters for more than eight decades of service to the citizens of Bonnyville and area.   The present personnel of the Bonnyville Health Centre had organized a raffle and presented a generous donation to the Sisters for the Missions.   It is their intention to repeat this contribution in the future.   For this final transfer ceremony it was a great joy for the Sisters of the Canadian Province to have Cécile and Georgette present at the event.  The Board of Directors and Administrator were missioned by Bishop Bouchard and Tom Wispinski, chairperson of the Alberta Catholic Health Corporation.   Many of the staff members participated in the planning and execution of this great day.   The decor was beautifully done and a very delicious lunch was enjoyed by all the guests.   As in the other sites, the Hospital choir provided beautiful music and song for the ceremony.   A video of the ceremony was also produced.  The Sisters’ legacy to those who continue the mission of healing in Bonnyville was inscribed on souvenir bookmarks and on a special candle which will be used at all future missioning ceremonies.

To ALL our BHC Friends....

Christ entrusts his mission of healing to each of you.  As you minister daily to those in need of tender care and compassion in Bonnyville Health Centre you truly are the hands, the voice and the heart of Jesus.  May you always be faithful to this vocation of love and service.

A hundred years… That can be understood in various ways

Perrine has been present in the West of Canada for a hundred years in the person of the Sisters who took up a challenge and accomplished a great acheivement. Each one left her own corner of Mayenne to go to “the other end of the earth” as people said at the time and we can imagine the strong faith that motivated them.
Sister Marie-Louise Recton whose memory is still alive in Alberta

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a young woman, one of my relatives (Sister Marie-Louise Recton, first provincial of the sisters of Evron in Canada) would have had such a lasting effect on a community.

The Fort Saskatchewan Associates meet on a monthly basis after the 11:00 mass, usually at Our Lady of Angels Parish church hall if the meeting rooms are not being used. This has provided us the opportunity to have Fathers Francis and John join us on several occasions.
