The associates

In the Ivory Coast, sisters and associate members celebrate the opening of the « year of Perrine »

5- in Africa - Date of publication 07-14-2004
The associate members of Africa come mostly from the Ivory Coast. Nine new members have just recently joined their group.

The associate members from Africa are mostly from the Ivory Coast and gather in Lakota. The group has recently grown in numbers with the arrival of nine new members.
The launching of the “year of Perrine” has been a particularly special time shared with the sisters of the Lakota community.
The associate members began their day together by fasting and personal prayer in follow-up to their common decision from a previous meeting. After completing their professional activities both associates and sisters gathered at five in the afternoon. We shared an hour of intense unity together in the presence of Jesus our Lord. A very simple prayer helped us to centre within ourselves in order to meet our Lord in the quiet depth of our hearts. This special prayer time took place in the sister’s chapel and was animated by the sisters, the associates and aspirants. The sister’s chapel was graced that special day with the sound of Perrine’s words and those of the Gospels. A remarkably meaningful intensity characterized our prayer time. Its flavour can be expressed in the words of someone who one day said, “These kinds of experiences are very difficult to find words for…..rather, they are meant to be lived !”
As follow-up to this time of wonderful sharing, we recognized how the congregation is continually in the process of evolving and has been capable of remarkable adaptation as it meets contemporary realities. Perrine was a very remarkable woman who incarnated discretion itself, since, as history reminds us, even her burial place remains unknown! And what an amazing example of humility ! The Lord will continue to bless and bring to fruition this work of charity which Perrine established in a spirit of discretion and simplicity.

We, the associates, who keenly seek to live according to this noble charism of charity, ask the Lord, through Perrine’s intercession, to help us cultivate among ourselves as well as with others a vibrant “spirit of charity, simplicity, unity and humility.”
Our day together came to a close as we shared refreshments with the sisters in their community.

A hundred years… That can be understood in various ways

4- in Canada - Date of publication 11-09-2009
Perrine has been present in the West of Canada for a hundred years in the person of the Sisters who took up a challenge and accomplished a great acheivement. Each one left her own corner of Mayenne to go to “the other end of the earth” as people said at the time and we can imagine the strong faith that motivated them.
Sister Marie-Louise Recton whose memory is still alive in Alberta

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a young woman, one of my relatives (Sister Marie-Louise Recton, first provincial of the sisters of Evron in Canada) would have had such a lasting effect on a community.

The Fort Saskatchewan Associates meet on a monthly basis after the 11:00 mass, usually at Our Lady of Angels Parish church hall if the meeting rooms are not being used. This has provided us the opportunity to have Fathers Francis and John join us on several occasions.
