L’Abbé Pierre, Father Laizé… These 2 priests became aware of the misery around them and consecrated their lives to improving the lot of the victims of social exclusion and the marginalised. They were influential in my joining Emmaus. Each week, for the past 21 years, I go to work with the companions where they live.

This Mass had been announced in the parish news letter. On this Pentecost Sunday, May 31, a large crowd assembled in the chapel which was beautifully decorated. There were people from the parish who usually attended as well as friends and Sisters.

With the summer comes the sunshine, the heat, the long holidays... a welcome gift in itself. Here, the arrival of summer heralds the Christmas festivities which are traditionally celebrated with a “chocolatada”, milk chocolate drink with cinnamon, cloves and accompanied by a fruit brioche.

Last August, at the National Pilgrimage organised by the Assumptionist Fathers, 30 places were offered to this Association that works with homeless people. Among them were Asians, Europeans including 2 gipsies, and Africans.

The Christian community were gathered together in front of the Church waiting to welcome and greet Father Bertin Dieme as he arrived in his “parishpriestmobile”. But what a surprise! Owing to financial difficulties in the parish the parish priest arrived on foot escorted by the curate, preceded by the altar servers and followed by the choir.

The Lalley Centre opened in the autumn of 2007 and the centre was officially blessed by the Bishop of Salford in February 2008. The inspiration for the Centre came from the Catholic Children’s Rescue Society in Salford Diocese as an outreach project in the wider community.

Father Guy Dolais arrived at the community in September 1991. He quickly felt at home in this big house which he already knew a little as he had spent some years here in the minor seminary. He loved to talk about this period.

The 21st January 2005, her real birth date, the community in the Mother House celebrate Sister Julienne Fauchard‚s hundredth birthday. Already knowing her own mind, Julienne, a young girl from Mayenne, enters community in September 1922, aged 17! In 1924, she makes her first vows and is sent to the state hospital in Le Mans where she cares for the sick until 1935. A school of nursing opens in this hospital. Sister Julienne prepares for and obtains her nursing diploma in 1929.
Consecrated life is valued and celebrated on February 2nd in Alberta’s St. Paul diocese…….

The African “Daughters” of Perrine Thulard in Evron

Six African sisters from Ivory Coast have been in Evron since the end of July to follow a programme of formation as part of their preparation for Final Profession. Three of them opted to make their Final Vows in the Mother House Chapel in Evron on the 8th August (see archives, article of the 09/08/2004).

Ever since the Sunday, 1st August, the preparations intensify. The corridors in the Mother House at Evron are decorated in different colours. The big, brightly coloured notice boards are covered with photos, texts, and symbols relating the history of the Congregation from its origins to the present day.
Pilgrimage Pontmain

Friday, 6th August, was a day of pilgrimage for the associates and sisters. The first stage was Pontmain. The story of the apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1871 was told in the barn, a visit was made to the Parish Church and then the Eucharist was celebrated in the Basilica. The associates found that Mary’s message in Pontmain: “But pray my children, my Son allows Himself to be touched,” is just as simple as that of Perrine.

On Saturday 7th August, there was a surprise for everyone in the community. Very early in the morning a paper flower had been placed at the foot of the cross on each tomb in the sisters’ cemetery. It was a way of symbolising the unity between heaven and earth, and the communion with all the sisters who have made the congregation what it is today.

The festivities in honour of Perrine Thulard came to an end on 8th August. During the usual Sunday mass in the sisters’ chapel in Evron Felicienne, Pauline, Genevieve made their Final Vows.

The Marguerite Perrier Centre, (P.M.I. or Protection Maternelle et Infantile) continues to welcome malnourished children expanding gradually it’s services while remaining within the broader area of nutrition.
